What is gospel? 1 Corinthians 15:1-8
We here many things living in the world. Something is good, other is not good. There are many good news, example health of family, promote in workshop, success of business, good record of children, else. But these aren't truly good news. Because these are good news for body, but fundamentally it is not good news that we solve our problems in our lives. What is good news for us? It is expressed gospel in the Bible.
Gospel generally means joyful news. This word was expressed good news. In the Bible, what does gospel means? It says about the problem of our life. What it is largest problem in our life is not about home nor children's study nor our workshop, but problem of relation with God. For even though we all want to live happy life, we can not live happy life because we left from God. It is beginning of unhappy why we left form God.
We can not live happy life, that's why we was cut off relation with God and it comes form sins. Therefore it is best news in our life that our problem of sins was settled. Gospel conveys news which the problem of our sins was settled. I hope we will listen to God's word how God did for he settled the problem of our sins.
1. Man who left from God
Natural man
Man was created to live happy. In Genesis chapter 1, Bible said that God created the Man as like God's image. God's image means that man rule over the earth as like God rules universe. When God created the man, God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostril the breath of life, and the man became a living being.(Genesis 2:7). A living being means perfect personality that was completed with spirit and fresh. So Adam could live with God. It means that the man have life of fresh also spiritual life which can associate with God. God put the man Eden where the man can live with God, Adam can live happy life. But Adam need to obey God' word for he lives with God in Eden. God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die"(Genesis 2:16-17).
Commit Sins
By the way Eve who was given to Adam as helper ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and she made Adam to eat the fruit. As a result sins came into the world. It is sins that the man refused Lord who is God and wanted to become as like God himself. The man committed sins disobeying God's word and eating fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.(Genesis 3:1-7).
All people are sinner.
The forefather of the human, Adam and Eve were cut off from Eden where was God's garden, that's why they disobeyed God's word and it was sin that they left from God.(Genesis 3:24). And they became to live life of curse. All people became sinners that's why the human were born according to descent of Adam and Eve, and were born having blood of sinner(Romans 5:12). Therefore all people sinners and we can not reach the glory of God(Romans 3:23). If we claim we have not sinned, we make him(God) out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives(1 John 1:10).
We must pay price of our sins.
1)We need to live under curse far from God. The human were cut off from Eden where is God's garden and need to live in trouble. The human's curse is far from God. The curse is that we can not live with God. We will receive trouble continually. The devil will attack the human who God's spirit left(Ephesians 2:1-3)
2)The human lost God that's why they committed sins(Psalms 50:22), they don't know God(Isaiah 44 :18), they don't try to find God(Isaiah 9 :13), they claim that there is no God(Psalms 14 :1).
3) Death come into the world as result of sins. First spiritual death came(Ephesians 2 :1) after death of fresh came. We can not go to before God as result of spiritual death(Romans 6:23).
4) We need to receive judgement from God. Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgement(Hebrews 9:27).
5) As result of judgement, we have to receive eternal punishment of hell(Mark 9:47-49, Revelation 21:8).
2. Gospel is the way of salvation.
God planed to deliver the human and completed.
1)Plan of salvation God planed to deliver the human as soon as he committed sin, and planed to send One and only Son, Jesus Christ as a descendant of woman(Genesis 3:15). This is performed thing by covenant that God Father agreed Son of God before beginning. Jesus Christ came into the world as descendant of woman with body of the human. And He crushed the head of snake(the Satan) who make the human to commit sins. God made garment of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them who covered themselves because of their sins(Genesis 3;21). It is symbol that Jesus Christ will die on the cross instead of our sins. God promised that the blood of Jesus Christ will forgive and cover our sins for Jesus Christ die on the cross instead of us.
2)Jesus Christ who will come as a descendant of woman. Jesus came according into the word that He come as a descendant of woman(Genesis 3:15). He have no sin because he was born through virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit(Matthew 1:18). Jesus Christ came into the world as son of man before 2,000 years in Bethlehem Judah as God's covenant. And He taught his disciples from 30years for 3 years and died instead of our sins and curses on the cross at Calvary hill in Jerusalem. Jesus died on the cross for he forgives the human's sins. He recognized that we have no sin. Jesus Christ rise third day after died and buried from grave by the power of God. After 40 days, He showed his disciples and ascended and have been sitting the right hand of God.
3)Jesus redeemed our curses. Jesus is righteous but he died because of our sins(Isaiah 53:5, Matthew 1:21, 1 Peter 2:24). Jesus died on the cross for he redeemed our sins and curses(Galatians 3:13).
What is gospel?
In 1 Corinthians 15:1-2, we heard gospel, it means good news that Paul declared about Jesus died for us and rose(Romans 1:2-4).
Paul said that Corinthians church believed resurrection of Jesus and was established on the fact. If they believed resurrection of Jesus, we need also to believe it. Because resurrection of christian is established by resurrection of Jesus. (John 14:19).
In the text, 'as the Bible' come twice. In the history of the world, there are many fact that did not be written in the Bible. It is not that fact must be written in the Bible. What is important that is written in the Bible? In many fact, specially the fact that death and resurrection of Jesus is written by prophet.
Isaiah 26:19 said that your dead will live, and Daniel 12:2 said that multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake. As this the old testament prophet watching resurrection. Because resurrection is purpose of universe. therefore we need to believe resurrection. If we rise by our power, we can not believe resurrection. But he who make raise is God, so we can believe resurrection. Is is impossible that God who created in nothing make dead to rise? The reason that there are those who do not believe resurrection is because of their sins. But those who are selected believe resurrection by the Holy Spirit. Therefore when we declare the way of resurrection, there are those who believe or not believe.
Witness of resurrection
Resurrection of Christ is completed by witness who saw resurrection of Christ.(Corinthians 15:5-11). Paul said that Peter ate food with Jesus who rose form death(Act 10:41). How much did he surely testified about resurrection of Jesus? What he eat food together with Jesus need to have many times. When he was eating food with Jesus, he could look for resurrected Jesus, and he might find that Jesus have real body which can eat food.
Twelve disciples also saw resurrected Jesus. It means that all disciples of Jesus saw Jesus. After when Jesus ascend upon heaven, 500 peoples also saw Jesus. And Jesus showed James who was Jesus' brother, James became disciple of Jesus.
Paul said that he also saw resurrected Jesus. He was oppressor who oppressed the church of Jesus Christ. But after he met resurrected Jesus, his personality wholly changed. This is a fact that Jesus was resurrected. Even enemy of Jesus believed resurrection of Jesus.
3. How can we receive salvation?
If we want to be forgiven form our sins and have salvation, how do we do?
We need to believe gospel.
When we believe gospel, we can have salvation.(Romans 1:17). We can receive salvation believing in Jesus by the grace of God(Ephesians 2:8).
We need to accept Jesus as our savior in our heart.
When we accept Jesus as our savior and believe his name, we receive power to become child of God.(John 1:12).
We need to confess Jesus who is our savior with our mouth.
When we confess that we believe in Jesus Christ as our savior, we can stand the place of salvation.(Ramans 10:9-10).
The fitting life to gospel
If we are christian who believe in Jesus Christ and saved, we need to live the fitting life to gospel(Philippians 1:27).
We need to live as citizen of the Kingdom of God, for we have the citizen of heaven.(Philippians 3:20). The standard of the citizen of Heaven is gospel. Christian need to agree with calling of Jesus, live to fit according to privilege and responsibility. When we live as the citizen of Heaven, we need to live by the life of resurrection and the Spirit. We need to live to unite with Jesus.
Christian need to do two. First, we need to cooperate for the faith of gospel with one heart and one will(Philippians 1:27). One heart and one will means about spirit and heart of the human. Paul told to Philippians church that they need to cooperate each other with common heart and spirit for faith of gospel. The faith of gospel is reality of truth that was expressed concretely in the gospel, and Philippians church need to try to declare and keep on the truth.
Second, we need to fight against enemy who fight against gospel. Enemy against gospel means all Jews who raised problem in the church where Paul established. Paul said to Philippians church what they must not worry and run away in oppression and temptation by false teachers, but fight against enemy in spiritual fight.
We receive trouble for Jesus Christ.(Philippians 1:29). It is gift of grace that we received power to became to child of God. But the grace means that we believe in Jesus and we should receive suffering. Christian need to trust in Christ personality. Christian need to personally trust in Jesus Christ. we need to attend to trouble of Christ as like Jesus Christ who receive trouble for complete purpose of God. |
